Nicola Rae : Intertidal Undercurrents, Laggan Bay, Isle of Islay, Scotland, 2012 (11:00 mins)

Casting adrift an underwater camera from a fishing rod into an intertidal, rocky crevice off the coast of Islay, the viewpoint becomes experiential. The camera and viewer are swept along by waves and undercurrents along with the flotsam, fish and shrimps, among the intensity of colours beneath the surface of the sea. This lack of control in relation to the camera's usually independent viewpoint sets up resonances with the media-manipulated debates surrounding Scotland's potential political independence from England.     ©2013 Nicola Rae.
